Noses and Couches
We had our first ER experience last week. Preston dove toward the couch, but did not land on it. He hit the edge of it where there is a large support board. It was an instant swollen, black and blue mess. I was able to distract him with toys and outside, so his crying did not last very long. However, his nose looked horrible. So I called his doctor to see if I should bring him in to check it out. The doctor did not tell me what I wanted. I was told to take him to the ER as soon as I could. Apparently there is only a short window when a nose can be fixed properly. And since there are no clear signs of a broken nose, the only thing that can be done is an x-ray. So we went to the ER. It was actually a pleasant experience. No one was crying, the wait wasn't too long, and we were able to sit and watch cartoons in our room. Thankfully, in the end, there was no broken nose. The doctor said it was just badly bruised.
This picture doesn't show how bad it was, but you can kind of see the swollen area.

Both of my kids have been to the ER twice. Madison had a bad cold that got worse over the weekend when she was 6 months old and had to go to the ER and had a bad case of pneumonia...and she drank nail polish remover with acetone in it(which was in a high place in a cabinet) when she was 2 (I did not know at the time there was acetone and non-acetone nail polish remover). Jaron had a rock in his ear once...we went to the ER and then had to go to the ENT doctor the next day because the ER people couldn't get it out...he still won't let you look in his ear without protest...and (unknown to me) he ate 3 fiber one bars at Lachelle's house and the next day (weekend again) he screamed and cried and could not talk he was in so much pain so I took him to the ER. I thought his appendix could have burst or he could have swallowed a toy and gotten obstructed somewhere. They ruled out some things and gave him muscle relaxers and said if it's a bad flu bug that would fix him and if it was appendicitis we would be back before morning. It fixed him. He slept all night with me in the recliner. I found out about what he had eaten after the fact but I still would have taken him. I have never seen him in so much pain. So, I am sorry you had an injury, but to make a short story long if this is your first trip to the ER you are doing great!
OMG !!! How was he ??
I hope he will be better.
